Ask Aurelius

Privacy

Effective May 20, 2026

Ask Aurelius is a calm, source-grounded companion for Stoic reflection. This page explains what the app collects, what it doesn't, and how your data is handled.

What we collect

When you sign in with Apple, we receive a private user identifier and your email address (or Apple's private relay address). Your name is included only if you grant it during Sign in with Apple. These are stored to identify your account and are never shared.

Your reflections

Your chat messages with Aurelius are stored on our server so you can revisit them. You can delete any conversation, or your entire account, at any time from Settings → Privacy. Deletion is permanent.

Your journal is end-to-end encrypted

Journal entries are encrypted on your device with a key stored in your iCloud Keychain. Our server stores only ciphertext and cannot decrypt your journal under any circumstance, including in response to subpoena. You can export your journal to Markdown at any time from Settings.

Subscriptions

If you choose to subscribe to Ask Aurelius Premium, your payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card details. We receive only a signed transaction record from Apple confirming whether your subscription is active. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

What we don't do

We do not sell your data. We do not use it to train any model. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use analytics or tracking SDKs. There is no IDFA, no advertising identifier, and no third-party trackers in the app.

Crash reports

If you have iOS's "Share with App Developers" setting enabled (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may forward us crash logs. These do not include the contents of your journal or your conversations.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete individual conversations, individual journal entries, or your entire account from within the app. Deleting your account permanently removes all server-side data linked to you within 30 days, including any backup copies.

Children

Ask Aurelius is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages, but it does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Material changes will also be surfaced inside the app before they take effect.
